Board Basics: Governance 101
Just about everyone has served on a board, and so everyone thinks they know what a "good" board is supposed do. However, members of the same board will often have very different ideas about the role of governance and what the board is supposed to do. Meantime, the discipline of governance is developing rapidly and there are increasing legal, regulatory, and organizational pressures for boards to know their roles and responsibilities and to function at their best. This webinar will review the basics of governance and is specifically designed for newcomers to healthcare boards (whether lay trustees or members of the medical staff), this seminar will provide a thorough grounding in the basic responsibilities of a board.

Board Basics: Medical Staff Credentialing and the Board
The board bears the ultimate responsibility for oversight of the medical staff and for determining which physicians can be members of the medical staff and what privileges they have. This simple statement belies the tremendous concern and anxiety that lay trustees have regarding their oversight of this critically important function. In this webinar, Jim Reinertsen and Jamie Orlikoff will demystify the board's role in the medical staff credentialing process. They will: review the reasons for the board's ultimate authority: outline the different roles of the medical staff and board; and, provide both context and tools for boards to understand and perform this crucial role.
